Just like everyone wants a doctor to look at their herniated bowel
at a dinner reception..........................
But there is a wild wild vibrato that Eddie plays,
unlike any I have ever heard, anywhere....................

QUESTION:
How do you get that wild violin vibrato and overtone combination ?

Example........OK, the violin solo (before going into the last chorus for GREEN FACE), right before the 2 big beautiful closing descending triplet violin riffs.............there is a staple definitive Eddie Jobson violin trick.........up top of the E string, quickly sliding up to a high e note, and getting a wild, almost semi-tone-variable vibrato, with wonderful wild overtones.
The ONLY way I can make a sound anywhere near this is to not press the string down all the way, and to just shake the hell out of the thing, not bending a knuckle or rolling the finger, but actually sliding the finger vigorously very very fast with a very light touch on the string.
I have never heard such aggressive vibrato !!
And a major part of Eddie's very unique rock style is ability to blend that wild vibrato with wild, electric-guitar-sounding-feedback overtones. I guess that the overtones, (which Eddie can manage at all points of the violin neck,) are achieved by NOT pressing the finger all the way down on the fingerboard, and sometimes, using the 4th finger to hit the higher octave on the next string, and doing the same, creating a 2-string overtone rock fest. Shake the hell out of the lower note, let both stings ring out?
Am I getting close ?
